Mantras started out as a fluke of experimentation, a loop created from exploring the guitar and the ways in which I could build a track off of a minimalistic harmonic and melodic line. It eventually spooled out to become what it is now, with a total of 68 tracks contributing to the overall sound of the piece, and many hours spent mixing and mastering. After the initial loop I created of Mantras, I knew where the piece should go, and was excited to get my thoughts down. Now, a few months later, I am deciding to release the track into the world and get some closure on this bizarre avant-folk rock track. This comes as the first track to be released for my upcoming album 'Hypnotizations' that seeks to describe trancelike, meditative states, where the mind gets lost in the subconscious. That is where the lyrics "I feel as though I'm in the movie, as a character in the movie, even though I'm just watching" come from, as a footnote in a journal I once wrote down after a dream where I became entranced by, and melded with a piece of cinematography that I was watching, with an attempt to highlight the ways in which art seeps into the brain and allows it to morph with the ideas it presents. Mantras was then born, as a culmination of ideas starting from just a looper pedal, a trumpet and a guitar. 'Hypnotizations' will be released in early 2021, expanding on the ideological themes of Mantras.
Special thanks to Mike Gamble, Joe Klause and Johanna Warren, some of the greatest music teachers and figures to look up to!
Another big special thanks to Edy Sarceno, for letting me use his amazing photography in the track art for Mantras.
